Beginning his career in the realm of film, Lapidus soon became renowned for his ability to craft homes that exuded joy, playfulness, and excitement, ultimately leaving a mark on the real world. When Lapidus moved to Miami Beach and began working there in the 1950s, he pioneered a unique approach to hotels-'destination resorts.' The Fontainebleau was the first to become a vacation destination for people from all over the world, as well as a filming location for movies and television shows. Celebrities like Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, performed there. The fi lm follows Lapidus' creations in South Florida, his contributions to the evolution of the cities, the county, and the state of Florida, and the great reputation he helped build. Lapidus was one of the few architects who developed the post-World War II style known as MiMo (MiamiModern). His work and approach are studied today around the world.
