The Assassin of Demons

It is the reign of Shogun Ienari (1787-1837). Genjuro Kamiyama (Kinya Kitaoji), a former police samurai of the South Town Magistrate's Office, has been imprisoned for five years and later sentenced to be beheaded for the murder of his friend who assaulted his wife and pushed her to commit suicide. However, Genjuro is alive. When Genjuro awakes from sleep, Ichida Magobei (Sasano Takashi) appears and tells him that it was actually a substitute criminal who had his head chopped off. He urges Genjuro, who should no longer exist, to live as "Genjuro, the god of death," and search for the truth behind the incident of five years ago. With the help of Isaji (Onomi Toshinori), who takes care of him and acts as a secret agent, Genjuro discovers the truth and destroys the villains. From then on, Genjuro is asked by Magobei, who is ordered by a mysterious old man and also Genjuro's savior from the execution, Rakuo (Nakamura Atsuo), to find out the truth behind various incidents and to expose the machinations of those in power.
